The following photos are visual examples of improperly healing surgical sites after having a male dog neutered. If your pet was neutered at Pets In Stitches, please contact us if your pet’s incision looks like any of these pictures.
Shadow. Significant swelling and reddness of surgical site due to infection that developed.
Justice. Rubbed his postsurgery collar in front of his scrotum trying to lick and developed a raw, red lesion.
Simon. To much activity led to bruising. Scrotal sac not hot, swollen or painful to touch. Simon needed to be rechecked though.
Spike. Developed bruising and small amount of bloody drainage.
Sarge, 4 days after surgery. Sarge’s postsurgery collar was removed and he licked the surgical site causing reddening and bleeding.
Gunner. Reddened scrotum due to excess activity. Owner purchased go-home sedation which allowed tissue to heal.
Ollie, 2 days after surgery. Swollen scrotum with abnormal bleeding. This dog needed further treatment at Pets In Stitches.
Cujo, 1 day after surgery. Excessive redness developed after surgery. Additional pain medications were dispensed and time allowed the irritation to subside.
Knucklehead, 1 day after surgery. This dog would not stay inactive. Due to his increased activity, he caused his surgical site to swell significantly. You can see how the incision has swollen so much that one can see inside the scrotal sac. Also, the scrotal sac was firm, hot, and painful. This patient had to undergo a second surgery to relieve the swelling. If your pet is being active, please contact us for go-home sedation.

Don’t just take our word for it…
I would highly recommend Pets in Stitches to anyone who is wanting to have a pet spayed or neutered.
I had all the paperwork done before we arrived and everything moved very smoothly. Never having had a dog before I was not sure what to expect. I found a friendly and caring staff who told me exactly what to expect on that day and after I brought her home. I was so glad that I decided to accept the sedatives. They helped so much to control my rambunctious labradoodle that first week even though I just used a half dose.
Thanks again for the good care you gave us!

WOW Pets in Stitches was great. Everyone is very personable and helpful.
I chose Pets in Stitches because my regular vet recommended them to do my dogs surgery to be neutered. I liked the whole experience, even after my dog’s surgery they called to check on him. One day I had to go in without an appointment to ask a question and the veterinarian was glad to answer my question.
